Join our KECA staff as we learn about the many different signals and calls that elk make or use when “talking” with one another. In no time, you’ll be able to understand exactly what an elk is saying just by watching them in the field.

Join a KECA staff member for a walk on the trails around the center to discuss the history of the property and the wildlife that often inhabit the fields. Learn what elk eat, where they spend their time, and how each season brings something different. Note that the walk is short (about 1/2 mile) and along flat, fine gravel trails. Meet at the “Big Elk” statue in front of the main building entrance. ACCESSIBILITY OF WALK: This walk is not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. Due to the wildlife focus on the walk, pets are not permitted on this walk. REGISTRATION: Registration is not required. Sponsored by the Keystone Elk Country Alliance (KECA) and the North Central Forest Landowners Association (NCFLA)

There will also be bush-crafts and archery demonstrations, candle making demonstrations, a live honey bee observation colony, a Fall Leaf Scavenger Hunt and a wild-edibles foraging program at 2:00!

Come have a cup of warm homemade apple cider and join us around the fireplace as we introduce you to Pennsylvania Cryptids! According to the Merriam- Webster Dictionary, the word cryptid refers to an animal that is claimed to exist, but there is no definitive proof. Learn about the spooky history of Pennsylvania’s lesser known citizens like the Squonk, the Giwoggle, the Bryn Athyn Beast, The Waterford Sheepman and Raystown Ray.
